Just when we thought that we were going to have a quiet, romantic new years eve, the neighbors started arriving. Two left after an hour, to go to a party. One brought over all sorts of food and stayed for dinner. She took off just in time for us to slip into the hot tub, for the fireworks.
Life is good.
Over the last ten years, I've progressively gone to larger and larger mouthpieces. I liked the tone I was getting and liked how a large mouthpiece feels. And each time I went to a larger mouthpiece, I needed to build a little more muscle. Perhaps with a bit more face-time, this coming year, my articulation will improve, with the bored-out Bach 3 (I play a small-bore trombone). But I've also felt that those extra muscles would be useful if I ever wanted to drop back to a smaller mouthpiece. My present favorite is a bored-out Bach 5. And with those extra muscles, I feel that I need very little pressure when I play...just enough to get a good seal.
