[Trombone-l] Buzz Mute? was H & B latency now K&M time lag

I guess I should be thankful, then, for how K&M does things. I lost the bell
holder piece off my UMI/K&M stand. The K&M rep parts lady was very nice,
sent me a PDF schematic with part names and numbers and allowed me to order
thru Ferguson's but have it drop shipped to me in Atlanta instead of
Chicago, LA, Atlanta. I received 3 of the 4 parts, the 4th, the 'knurled
knob', was backordered. I called today, 2 weeks after receiving 3 of 4
items, to determine when I could expect the 'knurled knob.' Here's the
headshaker, in part (and not the fault of the nice folks in Chicago):

"This item is on order. The item number is now 01.82.833.55 as Germany is
constantly improving the quality of their product! The item serves the same
purpose; the number is simply new. This part is expected to arrive on our
next container shipment, which will probably be about two to three months."

To which I replied (trying to put the best face on it):

"Thanks very much! I'll correct the part number and expect the part when the
dogwoods bloom this Spring! Enjoy the snow in Chicago!"

13 months from Humes and Berg? I've got all of you beat.

In 1965, in the 9th grade, I went to a music store and ordered an H & B
euphonium cup mute (it was in the catalog) for a specific piece that was

coming up at school (I think it was a bassoon solo and we didn't have a
bassoon that year.). It didn't come in for a long time - I was later
told H & B's factory burned down. The mute came in FOUR YEARS later. I

wouldn't buy it then, didn't need it. Store put it in their window for
a couple of years, until I bought it when I needed a euph straight mute
- the store sold it to me for the cost of same and I took the cup off of

it. It's a crummy euph mute, though - Denis Wick is much, much better.
