[Trombone-l] Diversified Tank Trombone Cases

Doug et al,

Like the military vehicle from which it takes its name, the Diversified
Tank case is a great case for protection (though it has no advertised
offensive capabilities thatI know of!). Like a tank, it's not small,
it's not cute, it doesn't maneuver well in traffic. However, it's not
terribly inconvenient either, but it is large compared to most
day-to-day cases. The Tank lives and dies to protect your horn. If the
old King coffin cases were acceptable to you, you will probably not have
an issue with the Tank. The Tank is even bigger (though perhaps lighter
or at least the same weight). However, the Tank doesn't have huge
amounts of open space inside like the coffins did for extra mutes,
stands, beer, etc. If you're looking for something in the middle--a good
solid case that's a little more user-friendly but with somewhat less
protection from airline gorillas--you might consider the Protec PB306CT,
the SKB 462 (the one Sam Burtis mentions) or the Eastman case.

Hope this helps!

---Chuck

Subject: [Trombone-l] Diversified Tank Trombone Cases

Hi Folks,

My son has taken my BAM SofPack Jazz case I was using for my Edwards
small-bore tenor. The backpack straps will be good for him carrying the
horn as he walks to school. So, I get to get a new case. :-)

I liked everything about the BAM case except it would not lay flat when
opened up. It is a light case without much mass, and it opens up a
little more than 90 degrees, sometimes making it tough to get the horn
out when you were performing in tight quarters. I am looking at the
Diversified Tank Universal Trombone Case. Anyone have any experience
with it they can share? It is about the size of the King coffin cases,
and I had those for years and never found them to be to big.

I've got it down to a hard case from Edwards or the Diversified Tank.

They are within $35 of each other. My Getzen bass trombone case is not
holding up like I think it should, and I am told the same folks that
make the Edwards Jazz trombone case makes the Getzen trombone cases.

Any words of advice are appreciated!

Thanks - Doug
