OK, so here's a pit story from amateur-land.
Some twenty years ago I was playing in the pit orchestra for a
Stanford Savoyards production of The Sorcerer. At the end of the
show, the sorcerer J. Wellington Wells tossed a powder into the fire
and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. As he ran off stage, he tripped
on one of the counterweights holding the scenery flats upright. The
flat fell over on stage, creating a big swirl of dust visible from the
pit. Flats fell over one after the other while the cast sang the
finale, each fall punctuated with a slap and a big cloud of dust.
Talk about bringing down the house!
