I'm sorry I replied twice, before reading through the posts and seeing
Michael's excellent list with instrumentations.
I'm going to add some comments and questions about a few: Please chime
in if you know any answers, anyone.

Very nice piece - more Bach than Barber, though. When I played this
there was no chorus anywhere around.

Is this the piece originally for 5 players and then expanded? I love
the original version, never heard the larger one. Original has two trps
and trb as 'enfeebled earth creatures, after the great thermonuclear
war', visited by horn and euphonium as visitors from outer space.
Widely spaced on stage - really neat.

The music to this says "From 'Ten Fanfares' " I believe the others are
by other composers, all commissioned during WWII. I've always been
curious about the other nine. Anybody played any of them?

We have played this a million times in the LO. It's pretty short.
Great piece, though.

Somebody else arranged this, I remember, with bits of Beethoven and
kitchen sink. kinda odd.

This is better than the brass quintet version of same. Very early, very
tame Husa.

We played this a bunch of times in LO. I really love Joan Tower's
_Silver Ladders_ for orchestra, but this piece is, uhh, rather common.
