Obvious choices for original works include Strauss' Fanfare for the
Vienna Philharmonic (1924), and Dukas' Fanfare from 'La Peri' (1912).
I've also played a very nice Grieg piece for brass choir, called
Funeral March for Richard Nordraak, and if your conductor is up for
more modern repertoire, there is the Copland fanfare ("for the Common
Man") and the Barber piece "Mutations on Bach." I don't have my discs
in front of me, but I believe Philip Glass wrote several pieces for
brass choir shortly after his studies at Eastman (and before he went
minimalist), and they're quite interesting as well, although I doubt
they use the full symphonic brass choir.
Let us know what you choose - I'm sure I'm missing quite a few
standards from my list.
