The Humboldt Brass Chamber Music Workshop Announces

Composition Contest
For Brass Chamber Music

Compositions should be an original, previously unpublished, work for brass
octet (3131) ­ 3 trumpets (cornets, flugelhorns), horn (in F), 3 trombones
(bass clef), & tuba. Euphonium (bass clef) may be substituted for one
trombone part (312.11). The composition should be a multi movement work,
from 13-15 minutes in length. Composer¹s original material written for
another complement and adapted for brass octet is acceptable. Difficulty
level: should be playable by the average college ensemble. You may write for
trumpets in other keys (C, E-flat, picc), but please include Bb parts;
trombone parts in bass clef.

First Prize - $2000; Second Prize - $1000; Third Prize - $500
 
All works will be PLAYED and judged by the BCMW coaching staff.

Winners¹ works to be performed during the July 2009 Brass Chamber Music
Workshop, held in Arcata, California. Amateur musicians in a workshop format
will perform music. Please include a complete score, a completed set of
parts and a recording. Recording may be a synthesized midi recording. All
entries should be received no later than February 1, 2009. Winning
submissions will be notified by May 15, 2009.

DIRECTIONS FOR SUBMISSION: In order to ensure anonymity, do NOT put your
name on the score or on any of the parts. Put all contact information (name,
address, phone, email) in a SEALED envelope with the TITLE of your
composition on the outside of the envelope.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS: Please print all scores & parts double sided,
taking page turns into consideration. Also, please bind &/or tape scores &
parts. Please do not submit loose pages.

One copy of all submissions becomes the property of the BCMW, for use at the
workshop and may be performed at a later date. Composer retains copyrights
of all works submitted.
