[Trombone-l] Extra low valve settings

Can't really see why this rig would be necessary for Mahler, except for the 
6th which I played recently on my standard Rath R9DST. I could have done 
with an open low Bb, Ab and G as the pedal didn't really give the right 
tonal quality. Mahler seems to think all trombones are the same generally, 
except for the "Baßposaune" 4th part in the 6th, and treats them all to a 
range down to D or Db below the stave. My colleague on 1st trombone 
describes Mahler as "the bass trombonists revenge", he needed to use a 
larger mouthpiece than usual for the highest part.

As for C being a money note, let's not neglect long 7th on the F valve for 
this, tuning the F valve very flat makes this easy (using the Gb 2nd 
position for F instead).

Still, diff'rent strokes . . .
