I had to look it up in an old Conn product manual, but I know Conn had a 
name for it.  P-27 is that name.  They explained that it is "a special 
alloy with a bronze bearing base" whatever that means.  I assume it has 
a bit more copper in it than regular brass, as it does have a little bit 
of a bronze color to it compared to newer slides.
