In my mute bag:

Jo-Ral straight
H&B cup
H&B bucket
a "blue" plunger from Wal-Mart
and a pixie mute just for fun (solo's)

I used to carry a "solo-tone" mute, but it broke. Fragile buggers,
those are.

I also carry a personalized fake book (the tunes I like), a stand
light, a Shure SM-57, two different water spray bottles, a tube of
slide cream, a jar of Super-slick, and one set of Slide-o-Mix. Also
a cleaning rag... and an extra light bulb for the light. In one
corner, tucked away -- one half box of business cards
(for the optimist only, who thinks a trombonist can get work).

Oh yeah... and a couple of pencils. One sharpie (for autographs).

Just kidding about the sharpie!
Ha!

Hey Wayne,

I think you may have started a new thread here. I propose that we all
disclose the actual, complete, contents of our mute bags. Not the "idealized
contents" or the "what we want others to think about us" contents, but the
real, actual contents. I think you have done a really good job in your
disclosure, and I am willing to be the second disclosee. Every one who
participates must be willing to open their mute bag RIGHT NOW (or soon) and
list 100% of the contents right here on the good old Trombone-L. Prizes will
be awarded sometime in the distant future. OK? Here I go!

1 men's shaving kit bag containing:
1 jar carmex
2 bottles Slide-O-Mix (50ml)
1 bottle Slide-O-Mix (10ml)
2 jars Super Slick
2 jars Super slick silicone
1 jar Reka Superslide
1 jar Equate allergy tablets
1 small squirt bottle (Digital Innovations)
1 medium squirt bottle (Bath & Body Works Gardenia Lilly)
1 sewing repair kit
1 green hohner kazoo
1 bottle Repel 100 Insect repellent
1 jar Selmer Slide & cork grease
1 travel toothbrush
1 replacement crutch tip for bone stand
1 cuff link
2 small screw drivers
1 spare bow tie
1 Craftsman "Finger Bit Driver" (works great on those dang stand lights)
1 Panasonic calculator
5 obsolete business cards
1 small Kodak film can containing 2 spare corks
1 mouthpiece rim on a stick
1 small tube Colgate tooth paste (regular flavor)
1/2 stick Door-ease tuning slide lube
1 elastic bandage
1 dozen non-obsolete business cards
4 pencils
5 pairs assorted earplugs (critical in these times)

Not in shaving kit bag:
1 ancient H&B cup mute
1 Alessi-Vacchiano metal straight mute (slightly dented)
1 light brown plunger mute(with hole drilled in the right place)
5 wooden clothes pins
2 Rhythm Tech "Eggz"
1 ten foot extension cord
1 six foot extension cord
1 Exacto Digital Quartz metronome
17 cleaning rags, stolen from some of the finest hotels in Chicago

That's it. That's all of it. 100%. Certified. Assembled in over 50 years of
playing this crazy instrument.

I can assure you that all 100% of the above are NOT going to return to the
mute bag.

Just for laughs, I hope some of you will join in. You never know what you
might run across!
