just played a dream gig right in my own town.

Big Band live dance at wedding reception... 4 sax, 3 trpt, 2
bones, keyboard, drums, and keyboard bas...

All the classics from the 30's to the 90's and back again.

and it was my friend Darcy's wedding reception--didn't know this
when I volunteered to do the gig...would have played it for free,
but nice to get paid! :o)

What joy to give music back to your friends from college band and
community band....!
Darcy plays piano, clarinet & recorder flawlessly, and sings
beautifully ...and also tutored me through college algebra. She
double majored in premed and music and is now an awesome music
teacher.
Her sis Deanna played (horn) with me in brass quintets till she
went on to grad schoool in music. For her wedding, we performed
"The Great Gate of Kiev" among others...
Dad has retired from teaching music for the second time and leads
a barbershop quartet. He still plays as our solo Euphonium
player in Brass Band and other local groups.

I am so glad music transcends age. I was in my 30's when I got to
MSU 10 years ago...and they have been my friends despite distance
and changes in time, and everything.

Another cool thing...weddings bring trombone players together too.
One of Darcy's friends, who is just a monster trombone player,
and is currently student teaching music, just bought a large bore
Custom Edwards horn.
Ran and got it and LET ME PLAY IT!...after a couple of sets, I
asked the band leader to let him sit in...so cool for all that
and he was totally into the jazz. He will make a very good
teacher for some very lucky kids...

of course, we all know how generous trombone players are. I had
myself never met him before, and vice versa...

now of course, I want to buy my own...at least, I didn't drool
all over his horn...

so to make up for lurking so long, I have just posted twice in
one weekend. :o)

Chris Ann
who plays a Bach bass bone but may switch someday or at least add
another horn! :op
