[Trombone-l] FW: elbow/forearm pain

Tennis elbow is a generic term for tendonitis.
As described by my Orthopedic Dr., it's inflammation of the anchor points
of the tendons in the forearm near the elbow.

The Velcro straps, if used correctly, effectively move the anchor point
away from the inflamed area by creating a pressure point under the strap and
relieving tension.
This along with rest is usually recommended.
The plain straps don't really do anything, you need one with a gel or air
pillow to create a real pressure point.

My Dr. Basically told me not to use my arm or hand for three to four weeks.
Yeah right!!!

So the strap is an ok band aid, takes a LOT longer to heal though.

Thanks
Eric

Dennis,
What you are describing is exactly what I am experiencing! The gel strap
gives me some relief.

Hi Everyone,

I lift weights a bit and thought I had strained my left forearm
muscles. It was very painful to hold any horn, even the lightweights
like my 6H. My chiropractor, who is a horn player and sympathetic,
works on the joint and muscles whenever I see him. He had me try
glucosamine (spelling?) which I didn't think did much. A friend with
the same problem found great relief from it. Might be something to
consider. My GP, not a player, said it sounded like tennis elbow to
him. He sent me to Walmart for a tennis elbow band that I wear when
playing. They have a couple models. The cheaper one worked fine for
me. Wear it around the muscle just below the elbow and there is a
little gel bump that presses into the hollow spot between the
muscles. Instant relief for me. I was to the point where I had to
transfer the horn to my right hand to put on the stand and work on
straightening out my left arm, often in great pain. The straps will
be in the pharmacy area with the back braces, etc. About $10.
Hope this helps.
Dennis
