A fellow trombone-l lister suggested taping a really strong magnet to the area closest to where the pain is, back when I had debilitating bursitis. Within a day, it reduced the swelling and pain. It may or may not work for you, but it's easy to check, if you can get hold of a really strong magnet, that is. My magnets are Neodymium, rare earth magnets... very high tech magnets left over from a very high-tech motor I worked on, years ago.
