Jerry,
I had a similar problem with a double-valve bass (though not with an
F-att tenor). The Edwards rest bar (Bullet Brace) was of
considerable help to me in holding up the double-valve bass.
The pain I had was definitely muscular, and I felt it most across the
top of my forearm.
