Forwarded from the Trombone Forum:

The Boston Symphony Orchestra has announced auditions for the
position of Principal Trombone of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops
Orchetras (one position).

Ronald Barron, principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony (38 years
in the orchestra), and Norman Bolter (32 years in the orchestra),
second trombonist of the Boston Symphony, have announced their
retirement this season. Norman Bolter is retiring on December 17,
2007; Ronald Barron is retiring at the end of the 2008 Tanglewood season.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra will have an audition for Principal
Trombone of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras (one
position) in early 2008 and then have an audition for Second Trombone
of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras (one position)
after the new Principal trombone player is hired and receives tenure
(so he/she has a voice in the hiring of the new second player).

Resumes will NOT be accepted for the second trombone position until
that audition is officially announced, most likely sometime in 2009.

Here is the schedule of dates for the Principal Trombone audition:

January 2, 2008 Resumes due

March 10, 2008 Preliminary audition
