Yes, comparisons to old Eastmans probably aren't apropos. My
impression, too, is that the Eastman Winds horns are all new products.

The ETB432 seems intended to compete with Jupiter's step-up trombones
like the 636RL. Well, at least that's a healthy form of competition
between China and Taiwan. Also in that category is the Yamaha YSL448.
The Eastman by Shires (ETB634) is supposed to be a cut above the
step-up models. It's labeled "professional" on the Eastman site. I
think it's priced in the same neighborhood as the Getzen Custom (e.g.
AFR3047), somewhere over $2,000, but less than the Edwards, Shires Pro
Select, or Shires Custom. Jupiter is bringing out a large-bore in this
niche to, the XO 1236. Gee, do you think that "XO" brand means Jupiter
has ambitions of competing with the Yamaha Xeno?
OK, that's all a discussion of marketing, not of the trombones
themselves. The proof is in the playing. But if you see pictures of
student musicians on the Jupiter and Eastman Winds web sites instead
of, say pictures of Jim Pugh, you can draw a safe conclusion about the
target market.
