I actually did that once on a TV show to make a point to the arranger/MD
that it was the only possible way to play the part.  Good thing the
trombones weren't in camera shot at the time.  At least I don't think we
were.  The MD wasn't amused until I told him why I had my shoe off and
plunger fixed to my big toe.  He bought me a drink after the show as a
reward for my ingenuity and free lesson on trombone arranging.  Actually, he
(Peter Knight) was a great string writer.
