[Trombone-l] quick! what's a "jazz mute" ?

It's very odd, because the _Divertimento for Orchestra_ was written in
1980 for the Boston Symphony. One would think Bernstein would have had
enough experience by then to be more specific about mutes.
Principal trpt was going to suggest plungers, since he also had "harmon"
later in part, but I have valve notes which precludes plunger until I
grow a third arm. Also, the tenor trbs have too fast a change to
""harmon mute" after "jazz mute" to do anything else, so we are all
going to go with harmons unless conductor objects.
