I tune it to Gb.  I bought my TR181 while on a visit to California and
discovered that the Gb extension to the G slide was too long.  My good
friend, John Leys took me to a small back-yard workshop owned by Rob Stewart
who cut the extension down to size.  Even now, it only just gets up to Gb,
so if the band is sharp I have a problem using it in 1st position.  I
generally try to avoid using 1st position for exposed or prolonged notes
anyhow, using it only to avoid awkward shifts.  Like Sam, I prefer playing
on mid-slide positions whenever convenient.
