Hi all...

I have been hired by Gunther Schuller to play the lead book in the
four Mingus Epitaph performances to be given this spring in the US.

For more info on this piece, go here.
<http://www.mingusmingusmingus.com/MingusBands/epitaph.html>

Wed, Apr. 25 Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York

Fri, Apr. 27 Tri-C Jazz Festival Cleveland, OH

Wed, May. 16 Walt Disney Concert Hall Los Angeles CA (Mingus and
Disney. A match made in...oh, I'm not really sure just WHERE that
match was made. Any piece with a movement titled "The Chill Of Death"
that is going to be played in a hall named after the
always-happy-and-now-cryogenically preserved Walt Disney is going to
be quite...interesting at the very least. Bet on it.)

Fri, May. 18 Symphony Center Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chicago, IL

As usual, I will make myself available for lessons, comps, clinics,
etc. around that travel schedule. The flights are all paid for, so
that means I can work for a reasonable price.

Get in touch if you are interested. (<sabutin at mindspring.com>)

This will be a fine band.

So far, the lower brass will be myself, Andre Hayward, Earl McIntyre,
Dave Taylor and Howard Johnson, plus a couple of yet-to-be-announced
tenor players. That's a pretty good start, right there. (As I recall,
it was written for four tenors, two basses and a tuba. The section
was originally Wayne Andre, Urbie Green, Britt Woodman, myself, Earl,
Dave and Don Butterfield. That was a pretty good start, too.)

Have fun.

I will...

Sam
