[Trombone-l] Carry-On Instruments

Has anyone else received an e-mail similar to this one:

"For years, AFM members have had problems bringing musical instruments
aboard planes as carry-on luggage. Recently, discussions with the airlines
trade association and Congress have picked up to the point where an
acceptable solution to the problem is possible. However, we need to show
that there is urgency to the problem. We would appreciate it if you would
describe your recent experiences when traveling with instruments to us so we
can show the seriousness of the situation for musicians. Please send your
recent airline experience to me at tperetti at afm.org. Thank you."

It looks legit, but there are so many scams on the net these days that I am
a little wary of responding to anything that comes in unsolicited. It seems
like they would have sent out a snail mail letter, on genuine Union
stationery, if this is for real.

We certainly need better policies for musicians travelling by air, and I
hope the Union is getting some action from the Feds, but I really don't want
to get involoved with some scam artist.
