Caught Natalie Cole in Atlanta this evening. She was backed by the ASO
(Richard Brady on bass bone) and featured a local horn section that she used
on her latest album of cover songs. 'Funderhorns'
http://www.funderbone.com/page8.html is the brainstorm of Wes Funderburk, a
fine young tenor bone player, along with Will Scruggs, saxes, and Ken
Watters, trumpet. They were a lot of fun to hear and were very tight. It was
a good show, catch it when it comes to a town near you! David (?) Triggs
played some flugle and I wish I knew who the other featured trumpeter
was...his upper register was really good and he improv'd effectively in that
semi-stratosphere.

Sometimes silence is needed... like in a good jazz solo. =)
