Hello all,
I was so touched by Merle's ride that I showed the website to Steve Shires, who decided that the S. E. Shires Company would sponsor Merle's ride. We hope that we can inspire more trombone players to donate to MS research by offering to match gifts from trombone players who are donating through the web. To participate, please go to Merle's website (link below) and indicate in the private message to Merle that you are a trombone player participating in the Shires matching donation program. We'll be in touch with him periodically.
As an aside, I don't know how many of you have ever heard of Don Sanders, but he is one of the finest trombone players I've ever heard. He was doing the European solo competition circuit with Michael Mulcahy years ago. Don retired from playing a few years ago because of his advancing MS, which took a gradual but inevitable toll on his playing and his overall health.
I hope we can all find some money in our budgets to give to the research effort against this terrible disease.
All the best to everyone,
Gabe Langfur

Didn't know if this made the list or not, so please excuse any duplication.
Merle Knotts is a retired engineer and amateur bass bone man. He plays in
the Cobb (suburban Atlanta) Wind Symphony and the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble
(aka Slide by Slide). FYI, he plays a dual independent Thayered Shires.
Check out this link and spread the word in order to help him raise money for
MS (multiple sclerosis), an ailment from which he suffers but has the upper
hand.
