To better qualify....

In college, this book and flash cards I made of notes in all different
cleffs were the two biggests aids in improving my site reading chops.

The act of site reading the 'Vich was great mental exercise and got me
to keep my eyes open.

As far as the flash cards: I'd run through them anytime I was sitting
on the band stand waiting for the gig to start. Or on break. (And we
all know there's A LOT of downtime in the music biz.)

Anyway, that's my $0.02.

Cheers!

The Vich is Back!

As promised, I'm letting you all know that the Blazhevich Clef Studies
book is available once again. It's now properly entitled "School for
Trombone in Clefs" and includes, as an added bonus, the previously
unpublished "Alto Studies." Here's the blurb:

The School for Trombone in Clefs (a.k.a. "Clef Studies") is now
available in a newly revised urtext edition. The School for Clefs first
appeared in 1925. A later edition appeared in 1939 that represented the
full maturation of the composer's ideas. Today's new "original
authentic" edition is based on that final 1939 Russian publication. It
corrects errors and omissions found in previous editions which had been
based on the 1925 version. It also removes all non authentic editorial
content such as dynamics, articulations and tempo indications, and the
original Forward by Blazhevich has been restored. Thus, in this
edition, the music and text are returned to their authentic state,
exactly as Blazhevich intended. As an added feature, each section of
the book and many of the individual studies have been annotated by Ward
Stare, principal trombonist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

BONUS: Alto Studies: Also included as a bonus in this new edition are
the Alto Studies, previously unpublished and available here for the
first time. Covering 50 pages, these 41 fully developed studies help
the trombonist not only gain basic ability on the alto trombone, but
also obtain technical proficiency to full mastery of the instrument.
Also appropriate for alto clef study on the tenor trombone. 161 pages
total.

The book is being formally released as a "New Issue" this week and will
soon be available from all the usual suspects, either from their own
stock or on a special order basis.
