Just thought I would mention some books that I have read that have to do
with the mental aspects of performance. The first is Zen Golf by Joseph
Parent. While this book has to do with golf, all of the suggestions can be
related directly to performance. Another is The Inner Game of Tennis by
Timothy Gallwey. Again this is related to tennis but his Self 1 and Self 2
approach is extremely helpful. The last is Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell
Maltz. I have used this approach with students getting ready for a recital
to help with the nervousness associated with getting out on the stage and
having the audience stare at you.
I am sure most of you already know of these books, but I thought it might be
time to mention them again. I am sure that all of us on the list would
appreciate additional suggestions.
