I'm not so sure he is the "late" at all.  I think that is an error in the article.  His wife called me about 6 months ago and I had the impression she was speaking for the both of them.  It was a quick call so there was no time for more in-depth pleasantries such as the status of everyone's health, garden, read-any-good-books, etc.
