I don't think this has appeared on the list yet, but Milt Stevens,
Principal Trombonist in the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington,
DC, and faculty member at the U. of Maryland, passed away last
Saturday, details are below. Milt was a true gentleman and his passion
for music and trombone was tremendous. He will be greatly missed.

Milton Stevens passed away last Saturday night in his sleep in Denver in
his hotel room. He was there attending the Summit Brass Conference where
he was to have performed and conducted the group. When he arrived last
Monday in Denver, it was determined that he had suffered a mild heart
attack the day before in Washington. He was admitted to the hospital in
Denver where he had a stint put in to help his heart. More procedures
were scheduled upon his return from Denver, but the Doctors gave him the
OK to check out on Saturday and Milt stayed in Denver to see the final
Concert with Summit Brass. He attended that concert and even went to the
party afterward. People there said he looked fine and well on his way to
recovery. He went to sleep that night at his Hotel room. After he did
not show up for his final doctors' appointment on Monday, the hotel
staff found him still in his bed. The fact that Milt didn't let a little
thing like a heart attack stop him from being around his fellow
musicians is typical of Milt's philosophy & love of life. He will be
sorely missed not only in the NSO and WSB, but in the entire music
community.
Information about his funeral and memorial service is sketchy right now.
At this point his wife Priscilla is leaning toward having a small
ceremony soon, and doing a bigger memorial service then first or second
week of September at one of the venues Milt & the WSB used to perform
often--National Presbyterian Church in DC.
I will keep you all posted.
Thanks, Phil
