[Trombone-l] LASIK Surgery

Dan;

I have to agree with both Bob Devine and John MC Vey who have already
answered. When I had lasik - they told me to go home and go to bed for as
long as possible. They were so serious about it they even gave me some
really primo dope. I was told that the first day or two immediately after
the surgery is the biggest factor in the recovery - and that sleeping was
the best thing that could be done. My experience was that I could have
played a gig that night if I really had to - but I didn't want to - and
really shouldn't have. Fortunately I wasn't faced with the dilemma that you
are. I know giving up a gig is against our religion ( Trombonism) but in
this case I say do it and don't think twice.

The good news is that ( if it works for you like it did for me) it will be
one of the best things you'll ever do - or have done. I too need reading
glasses to read. But 6 bucks at Wal mart is so easy it's laughable - and
carrying them around is no problem at all. Beats the stuffins out of
"real' glasses.

Best of luck with it - of course - since a bone player's doing it I know
it's going to work fine!

Subject: [Trombone-l] LASIK Surgery

Has anyone on the list had LASIK surgery? I'm scheduled to have it in
mid-August, in the morning before an evening show. Any thoughts from those
who've had it or know about it as to whether I'll be recovered well enough
to play a show that night? I'm a bit concerned about pressure from blowing
as well as the time it'll take for the visibility to click in (though I've
heard that you see fine soon after).

Coincidentally, the doctor who will be performing the surgery also plays
trombone (I still trust him), and said I should be ok. I'm just checking
around to be safe; you never know – maybe he wants my gig...

Thanks!

Dan
