[Trombone-l] Case ? - Traveling to Italy and UK

The SKB golf case thing worked well in the days when you could trust that it
wouldn't be opened and (poorly) repacked without you present at some point
during your trip. Any case that has any chance of surviving as airline
checked baggage depends on being properly and snugly packed, and with the
current security scene I don't trust that it won't get unpacked without me
present.
I use the most concise hard case that I can find because 1) it will fit in
the overhead, and 2) if I am MADE to check it, it might survive. I've never
had to check it. If Walt Johnson was still making trombone cases, that is
what I would have. He isn't, so I use an Eastman that has been fairly
significantly modified with dense foam inserts. I carry it on, and have
never had any issues at all. Maybe I have been lucky.
