[Trombone-l] Sunburn ..please share your remedies.

I actually suffered a similar plight while on anniversary vay-kay in
Puerto Vallarta. Watch out for the 1000m hip-deep pool with hot&cold
running Mai Tais every 10 paces!!
My lovely bride somehow felt it her divine right to get the corn-row
braids all tourists get while on tropical sojourn. Only she has super
fine curly hair. This means it took 3 of the poor unsuspecting local
girls a total of about 4 hours to braid her up right.
This of course left me in said pool "people watching" for the whole
4hrs. And the cocktail staff around the pool... Bless their hearts...
Never let me Mai Tai get down below half-full.... FOR FOUR HOURS!
They make 'em small...
You barely taste the booze...
I think I was on pace for 3 - 4 an hour.
Thank gawd our room had a separate living-room and marble floors.
I looked like a frikkin' lobster. Couldn't put my arms down for 3 days
without severe pain. Had a fever w/ chills for 3 of our 10days there.
And the only comfortable place to be, if I wasn't taking a cool shower,
was lying flat-backed on the marble floor.
So let this be a warning to you: While in tropical swimming pools,
beware the smiling waiters bearing trays of free Mai Tais!
Didn't have Noxema in Mexico. And didn't remember the tea remedy. So I
had to ride it out with a bottle & a half of aloe vera and as many
Tylenol/Rum Punch shooters as I could handle.
..and now I, too, am wary of spending any time in the sun at all.
I have found that Nutregena makes a face lotion that is SPF15. My bride
started me using it 'cuz she kept complaining that may face was always
dry. (Too many sunburns on the fair white boy from Cleveburg, I guess.)
Anyway, it does a good job of keeping the face moisturized and provides
adequate sun protection.
For the lips, I go back & forth between Blistex Lip Medex and Burt's
Bees Beeswax Lip Balm in the little yellow tin. The Burt's Bees has
peppermint and almond oil -- refreshes and keeps the choppers supple
for the looonngg gigs.
That's my $0.04 anyway.
Cheers!

Oh yeah...pretty hard to forget those sunburn experiences. Mine
happened on
a sunny July day in Michigan when I spent about 3 hours on the wrong
side of
the hotel pool, so I got the sun's direct rays, the reflected rays from
the
pool, and the reflected rays from the concrete. I was OK for about two
hours, then it started to come on. We were playing a show that night
outside
and the temp dropped to about 50. I was cooking on the inside and
freezing
on the outside, which produced a very obvious and uncontrollable
shiver. I
was shaking so bad that I couldn't play.
There was a "cast party" after the show and I asked the hostess if she
had
anything for sunburn. Bless her, she led the way to the bathroom and
produced a big jar of Noxzema. I coated myself with it to a depth of
about 4
inches. It worked great...for a while. Then it stopped working. What
really
worked, however, was about 5 stiff drinks. I didn't feel anything for
the
rest of the night...but the next day....Oi !!!
Big hangover plus major sunburn equals absolute misery, and I was very
miserable for about 5 days. Today, I stay out of the sun. That
experience
totally traumatized me and now I use a lot of sunblock and always wear a
shirt and/or hat.
Have great respect for the sun. Those UV rays only have about 20 miles
of
nitrogen to penetrate before they penetrate YOU.
