On the other hand (or end) I have used a cold sore prep called "Zylactin B" 
which actually contains the same local anesthetic as Preparation H 
(benzocaine) and a polymer which will seal over any cuts. If you don't have 
any broken skin then "Zylactin L" will do the "feel better" job.
