Yes - One and the same J.C.Pf. - he was as much an entrepreneur as he was a
musician -He founded and operated the Transylvania Music Camp - Brevard
Music Center - Head of the Department and Band Director at Davidson
College - Conductor of the Charlotte Symphony - and organist at the largest
Pres. Church in Charlotte - all this at the same time when I was in college
at Davidson. He later left Davidson and became conductor of the
Jacksonville, Fla. Symphony without giving up any of the other jobs, but he
was extremely jealous of his musicians. I played in the Charlotte Symphony
for three years, but was no longer allowed to play for him when I started
playing in the Charlotte Opera Orchestra which was conducted by one of his
former star students!!
In any case he deserves a lot of credit for creating the interest and
providing the opportunity to experience classical music in the southeast.
