[Trombone-l] Comparable mpc to Laskey 85MD

Jim---Paul is very correct concerning the tuning problem with many Bach bass
trombones. I had to have Chuck Ward remove 3/8th inch from the tuning slide
receivers on my Bach 50B. I was having to play pushed all the way "in" under
normal temp. conditions and really had difficulty when ever I had to
perform, outdoors, on a rather cool evening, like can happen here in Ohio,
during summer, outdoor concerts.
According to what I have read, remove from the tuning slide receivers (you
will have to also cut the same from the end of the tuning slide) is the most
successful method, as trying to shorten a tuning slide can be very risky,
because of the drastic taper involved in cutting a tuning slide. I wouldn't
want to mess with that critical area; whereas the receivers are all
same-diameter tubing.
Paul------are the 42B's a little long, also? I just purchased a very nice
traditional wrap, 80's 42B and I have to play with it pushed almost all the
way in, to get up to pitch. I am sure my mouthpiece choice is not helping
either, which is a Bach 1.5G, until my Doug Elliott gets here, with a 114
rim and some tenor cup and backbore parts of his. I know a 1.5G isn't doing
this horn any favors!
