I have been given "the look" when I felt it was not worthy of getting up. It is an uncomfortable feeling, but even "I" have my standards...

Yes, tepid applause for a great performance is probably disconcerting.
But I find the other end of the spectrum even more annoying: gratuitous
standing ovations for what is NOT an exceptional performance. I take
great offense at the flock of sheep around me giving an automatic
standing ovation for what was an adequate, but not particularly
inspiring program. They make me look like a creep if I don't join them
in their standing O. I'm not trying to protest or insult any of the
performers when I applaud and don't stand.

What are the opinions on this? Join the sheep as to not offend anyone,
or keep you seat, even if you are the only one in the house sitting?
