[Trombone-l] Comparable mpc to Laskey 85MD

The other alternative is to have the tuning slide cut down. The Bach 50
was designed originally around the 1.5G, and I would assume that the
Laskey 85MD is larger than the 1.5G, and they haven't changed their
design in 60 years. You might start with cutting 1/8 inch of each tube,
and that will shorten the horn by half an inch. (1/8 x 4 tubes) If it is
still flat, cut another eighth. Ideally, you want enough the horn sharp
enough so that you can pull your tuning slide some---1/2 inch or so.
Again, a GOOD repair technician is necessary.

Why not have the Laskey 'turned down' by a capable repair technician?
There's a way to test it by seeing if it's a good fit but just short or
if
it wiggles/pivots from either the top or the end of the shank. If the
fit is
even and solid, it would seem to be a matter of turning the shank down
with
the exact same taper.
Perhaps Eric S or another lister with this experience and/or skill can
speak
to this.

I have a Laskey 85MD that I loaned to a student. On my Shires, it goes
into the leadpipe about 3/8ths of an inch farther than into his Bach
50B3
leadpipe. The result is that his first positions are always flat.

He really likes the 85MD (better than his Bach 1 1/2G), can someone
recommend a mouthpiece similar to the 85MD that would fit in a Bach
leadpipe correctly?
