Some years ago our faculty chamber orchestra was playing a piece of "new 
music".  This involved improvization on the part of the instrumentalist 
while a pianist played a very slow melody. We could enter at any time and 
work off of what note was being played by the pianist.  The audience was not 
amused and began to wad up their programs and throw them at the musicains.  
I would have to agree with their response!
