I'd like to add that besides, of course, Watrous, Johnson, Winding, Green, and Wilson, as a kid I loved the sound that Dave Bargeron got with Blood, Sweat & Tears!

My Bass Trombone inspiration is Jeffrey Reynolds,
I got the privilege of performing twice in Moravian Brass groups that he was
guest conducting.
In 2004 the Bethlehem Moravian Trombone choir turned 250, he was the Guest
Conductor and even did a special arraignment of his Moravian Chorale Cycle.
He lent me his Conn 62H to use during the Festival,
since he had seen the Holton I was using had seen better days and had no F
valve. The Conn had one of those fake bullet hole stickers on the bell, shows
what a fun guy he is, on top of the playing ability.
For Tuba inspiration, The short list is Chuck Dallenbach, Warren Deck, Gene
Pokony Carol Jantsch, and Arnold Jacobs.
Cheers,
Paul Lewis

Hi everyone...
I didn't see any mention of the fine west coast studio trombonist, Alan
Kaplan. If you haven't heard his CD, "Lonely Town" you are missing something.

I agree, beautiful sound, excellent range, and he also does lots of LA studio
work, and the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band too, very versatile.
My only recommendation is to not listen while driving a long monotonous drive,
you will go to sleep, he is sooooo smooth.

Teagarden , Dorsey, Dickenson, Green, Fontana, Watrous -- all fabulous players.
4 of A Kind may be my favorite CD.
How 'bout that Abe Lincoln?
I loved the punch of Eddie Hubble, with the World's Greatest.
There are 2 Florida players i greatly admire --- John Allred (now of NY City), and Greg Nielsen of Sarasota. They both play many styles with grace, polish, and enthusiasm.

That's great news - I turned on to this LP while it was out of print,
and long ago wore out a cassette copy. Here is a site with CDs in
stock (scroll down to Eastman Trombone Choir):

I would like to add Fred Postlethwaite to the long list of celebrities we
have already seen. Fred is not a trombonist. Neither is he a very
proficient musician. In fact he has a lousy sound, terrible intonation, and
can't read anything more complicated than a string of whole notes, but it
will make his day when he hears that he has been included alongside such
great international all-time personalities.

Sorry about the repeat, but was not aware of the UAB recital Tuesday
night.
For those in the Birmingham Al area that can't make the Samford recital
on Thursday the 8th, Jay is also presenting a recital at UAB (University
of Alabama, Birmingham) on Tuesday February 6th.
Details for both:
Samford Recital, Thurs., Feb. 8 at 7:30 pm in Brock Hall on the Samford
campus.
Along with pianist Joanna Sobkowska, he will be performing works by
Bellini, de Frumerie, Wagner, Arban, and Bernstein.
Samford Directions:
Map (building marked #7) at:
http://www.samford.edu/map_cmps.html
The UAB concert will be at Tuesday February 6th at 7pm in the Reynolds
Kirschbaum Recital Hall at the Alys Stephens center. The concert will
be the same as Samford with the exception of the de Frumerie concerto
which will be replaced by a piece entitled, 'Quick 'n Delicious' for
trombone and acoustic manipulation by UAB composer, Michael Angell.

Hey, do they have to be legends? I haven't seen names like John Rojak, Ben van Dijk, Eric Lindblum, Nils Landgren, Murray Crewe, John Engelkis, Brandt Attema or any of the guys playing in the New Trombone Collective. Their concerts at ITF New Orleans 2005 showcased some of the most inspirational playing I have ever seen. All of these guys are still rockin' it!!
