The subject of this email is the trombone recital being offered here at Samford University, free of charge, by Jay Evans on Thursday evening, February 8th, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in our NEW recital hall (Brock Recital Hall, in Jane Hollock Brock Hall; adjacent to the Wright Center).

Jay Evans, trombone instructor in Samford's School of Performing Arts, became the principal trombone with the Alabama Symphony during the 2000-01 season. In June 2002, he appeared as soloist with the orchestra on the Sounds for Summer series. Evans has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, American Symphony, New York City Opera National Company and Miss Saigon on Broadway. He worked with notable conductors Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa and Jeffrey Tate while a fellow in trombone at the Tanglewood Music Center. He was also a participant at the Spoleto Festival Due Dei Monde and had a five year tenure with the internationally acclaimed Dallas Brass.

If anyone is in the area come check this out. Not only is Jay a superb player, but the new recital hall has state of the art acoustic design. I had the good fortune to play in it with the Samford University Orchestra this fall. It is a wonderful venue.
