Interesting questions--I'll concur with Eric Edwards'
advice about searching through the many horn options
available.  If you have access to music stores (& even
other trombonists) who will let you try out horns,
that will give you the best idea of what will work for
you--or at least point you in the right direction.

As far as range, yes bore size will affect that some,
but I think mouthpiece size is the biggest factor. 
With some experimentation you'll find the optimum
mouthpiece you're comfortable with--and gives you the
sound you want.  The bore size (and type of alloy used
on the bell) will mostly affect the sound rather than
the range.
