[Trombone-l] Bach Liberty?

I didn't measure the Liberty with calipers, but I am sure that it is a .547
- it takes a large shank M.P., and the slide is as wide as the 42, and it
really is identical, side by side you could not tell the difference. As far
as the Omega, I thought that it was based on the 36, with a .525 bore,
small shank MP, 8" bell. However, the slide looks different at the handgrip
area, and the F wrap is slightly different, enough that you can distinguish
it from a 36. The Liberty is closer in appearance and playing
characterestics to a 42, IMO, than the Omega is to the 36. When I used the
word "tighter" (my own term, maybe not the best), what I meant was that
there was a little more resistance, and the sound was not as resonant as my
42, but again, it was a subjective feeling that I find difficult to put
into words. But anytime I play a new horn, that's the impression I get, to
some extent, compared to my older 42 and 36, which have many playing hours
on them. It just seems like I have to work harder to get the sound I'm used
too. I think that the Liberty is marketed as an intermediate, since it is
not a Strad, but it's probably the best one I've played.

you are talking about slotting, then it may very well be that a smaller
bell plays a little "tighter". If you mean that the sound is more
focused, then again, a smaller bell might make the instrument play a little
"tighter". If you mean that you can hear yourself a little better, then
again, a smaller bell could make the instrument play a little "tighter".

you hadn't noticed).
