[Trombone-l] Tune a day vs. New Tune a Day

I got the new tune a day w/ CD/DVD for a student last year , and really loved working with it- especially because it seemed to progress through the basics much faster than the typical beginning book- different rhythms and keys and 8th notes are introduced much faster, it seemed, as are technical exercises. (the first year is covered in 60 tunes, not 150.) And, generally, I really liked the choice of songs, and so did my student.
My plan was to order multiple copies of volumes one and two for my new students.
So I did, and after finally arriving after being back-ordered, they're on their way here.
Since I'm taking leave from school for 3 months starting next week, I asked for an email receipt to collect payment ahead of time, and found out that I have gotten the tune-a-day originals, not the new tune-a-day. I think this may well be my mistake- I may not have specified when I ordered.
Does anyone have experience working with the two methods? Do the things I like in the new tune-a-days (technical exercises and scales, moving quickly through the basics) exist in the originals?
I know I can always adapt, but since I'm leaving my teaching to a sub for a while, it would be easier to have a method I already like.
Thanks,
Jackie
