Just a plug for the orchestra- last I heard, they are still searching for someone to cover my maternity leave for bass trombone- they're waiting for tapes to come in, but no decision yet. (hint- if you want to apply, send FED-Ex- the "guaranteed" few days with the post-office Global service will get you your money back, but will not get there for 2-4 weeks).
The dates are now September 10-Dec 7th, and the rep is fantastic- Pictures, Planets, Brahms Requiem, Beethoven 9 (with a repeat of selections on another concert) is what I remember from looking briefly at the schedule. Obviously, there's more- including Bolero, but that doesn't affect us basses much!
It's a decent group, fun people, nice section to play with (at least, I really enjoy them- can't see how you wouldn't!), and definately a liveable wage, plus the whole cross-cultural thing is a blast, if you enjoy seeing new places. If it weren't my maternity leave, I'd jump at the chance!
They may also be interested in a series of short-term subs if they can't find one person who can do all.
Conact Oscar Arevalo at osuanl at intercable.net, if you'd like more info, or see their ad on musicalchairs.
