Without permission to do so from the copyright holder, an
arranger would probably be running afoul of copyright law. If I were recording it, I would certainly want not want to risk that.
I've also been wondering why I would suggest that the Biebl would need improvement. The version for men (trio TTB plus TTBB chorus) certainly is not muddy, and the Chanticleer recording is evidence of that. Indeed, when the choir is holding a long note, the trio is ascending in moving notes. Both groups answer each other back and forth. This is one of those little pieces that is perfect just the way it is.
Three months ago here, I offered to help a list member get the trombone parts for the Sibelius Seventh Symphony. Mr. Nieweg reminded us then that the work is still under copyright. Having seen a Dover score of the Fifth, I had assumed incorrectly that the Seventh (1925) was public domain also. Well, any day now.
