I doubt that Bartok ever commented directly on it.
The negative comment on the Shostakovich 7th, which was getting a big
wartime reception while Bartok was sick and nearly forgotten, is
obvious, in any regard. It doesn't need to be a literal anything. But
it should be played well on an instrument on which it doesn't fit well.
