DO IT!!!

I found myself at age 37 staring down the barrel of retiring from 20 (or more at that point) years of US Air Force service. The initial inventory told me I had a high school diploma. While that might be good, not so much if you're looking for a productive job in todays job market.

Long story short (so we can get to the MTC).. I finished up the Community College of the Air Force's Associate in Applied Science degree. While an AAS is good, you'll need a 4 year degree (at least) to move up.

Find a local university that takes "life lessons" as it caters to the cash cow folks like me who WANT to go to college, finish their degree, and are willing to make the commitment to do it in some 13 months. I chose Southern Nazarene University, but there are many other options.

I kept going until I'd finished an MS degree in Management .. useful in the firm I'm working in now as an IT geek in ways that spill over from simply "getting the job done" to the longer vision using the business skills started in school after I retired. I was 41 when I retired, and finished my MS degree when I was age 45.

<MTC>
I played Trombone the whole time .. including some of the smaller 'pick-up' bands while in the Air Force
</MTC>

Good luck in whatever you should choose! I'm 100% behind adult education.

I have been contemplating and now may actually have the resources to persue
the degree that I started back in 1984 - Music Education (High School).

Is it foolish to attempt such a thing now as I would most probably have to
start over since it's been so long? I'm looking at starting at the local 2
year college and then see from there if everything would even be feasible.

Anyone else done something similiar?

Thanks!
