Great suggestions, Al!

I'll only add:

As primarily a Bass Trombonist (and Tubist), my times
on Alto, obviously are less than the primarily Tenor
players, but there are times when I do play Alto.
For different reasons (just as Tenor players), I have
both a large bore (.500 Eb/Bb Conn 36H), and a small
bore (.460 F copy of German Baroque Alto).
When I need to play light, not neccessarily
Alto-specific, but high & light in the Alto range, as
in Renaissance Faire 1st playing, I use my Eb with
screw-on rim [1 1/4 rim, 11C cup). When those times
come that I NEED to sound like an Alto Trb specically,
I use the F instrument, with 1 1/4 rim & 15C cup

Conn makes several models, not just the triggered
variety.
36H in Eb w/Bb valve
37H in Eb, no valve
and a model in Eb w/ a D trill valve (not sure of
number).

Not everyone has more than one Alto, I understand.
I'm sure you have more than one Tenor, yes?

You might consider different mouthpieces or cups, in
the case of multi-part mp's.

YMMV
