No you don't need the microphone if your not going to use the intelligent
accompaniment....but there are places in the accompaniments that are a pain
if you don't have it...same with the foot pedal.
I believe that when you subscribe, you can download the software, but they
also send you a hard copy on CD-ROM.
And the subscription price remains the same as long as the deal between the
ITA and Smartmusic lasts....there are similar deals with other
organiztions...
