I made a "thumb-saver" version of an Ergobone and it works quite well.  It 
supports the weight of the trombone with an adjustable rod that runs down to 
a clip on my belt.

But my problem is with my right shoulder, a problem that might go away 
entirely if I didn't try to play bebop.
