[Trombone-l] Bursitis

Dan,
When I was first diagnosed (bursitis & arthritis), I had a couple of
cortisone shots (in each shoulder!), physical therapy for three months, an
anti-inflammatory, etc... I still couldn't play with an acceptable amount
of pain until I got an ErgoBone. If it wasn't for my ErgoBone, I woouldn't
be able to play today... and I'm only 48. I don't know if you can get the
thing on a trial basis (less than 2 weeks was all it took for me to notice a
big difference), but you might want to ask. If not, shell out the cash
anyway! For me, it was definitely worth the investment. The inflammation
is low enough now, that I can play a gig with my .500 bore horn without the
Ergobone. I still have to use it with my 88H & bass trombone. I even
adapted it to use on my euphonium!
Like the old commercial says,... "Try it. You'll like it."

David,
The cortisone worked wonders, but I don't want to take any more of it, if I
can help it.
I do take lots of Advil, and I suppose it helps a bit. But I can't even
sleep in certain positions, these days...too painful.
And I was certainly taken aback by how much I was effected by playing a few
fast licks on trombone. Perhaps I really do have to put the trombone down
until my shoulder is better.
