This summer I will be doing a fund-raiser for the Georgia Chapter of The
National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
I will be leaving on May 19 to pedal a recumbent tricycle to my 50-year high
school class reunion in Oak Harbor, Washington on August 3. This is a
distance of about 3,300 miles and will take me about 3 months to do
(including the return trip by car).
Obviously, I will not be taking my bass trombone with me. Not only is there
no place to carry it, but I don't want to pedal it over the Rockies or the
Cascades. I can carry a mouthpiece but that seems like a poor substitute for
actually putting my horn on my chops.
If anyone along the way could include me in a community band rehearsal or a
quartet or ??? it would be lovely. However my schedule is not very flexible,
as you might imagine.
You can see the whole story on my website, www.MerlesMilesForMS.com. On my
website I have posted a list of cities and towns that I will be going
through or near. There is also a route posted for anyone who has Microsoft
Streets & Trips software. This information will give you the where - the
real problem is the when. I hope to make about 45-50 miles per day on
average - more on the plains and less in the mountains. My progress will be
posted on my website in real-time or as close to real-time as web access
will allow.
I'm going through mostly small towns but there is the occasional large city
in the list. I am also interested in attending a concert or something else
to break the monotony.
I will be unsubscribed from trombone-l during my journey, but you can
contact me through my website if you have anything interesting for me.
Thanks to all,
Merle Knotts
